چکیده

In an oncological setting, the commonest causes of hepatomegaly in infancy are hepatoblastoma, neuroblastoma and vascular tumors (hemangiomas/ hemangioendotheliomas)(l). They often present as asymptomatic liver enlargement. Hence the diagnosis rests on imaging and associated laboratory investigations which need confirmation by histology. Serum alpha-feto protein (AFP) levels often help exclude or confirm a diagnosis of hepatoblastoma. During infancy serum AFP levels have to be interpreted with caution as they remain relatively increased for the first few months after birth (2-4). We report here a 3 1⁄2 month old infant with hepatomegaly, anemia and serum AFP of 700 ng/ ml who posed a diagnostic dilemma.

Status of serum alpha feto-protein (AFP) and midkine (MDK) levels in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

Introduction: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is sixth common cancers worldwide and predominant in Asia and Africa. A number of evidence suggests a possible role of midkine (MDK) and α-fetoprotein (AFP) in the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Materials and methods: We studied MDK and AFP in patients with HCC or in healthy controls. MDK and AFP was measured by enzyme linked immuno...

Antenatal diagnosis of trisomy 13 with unexpected increase in alpha-feto protein.

A 24-year-old woman who had previously given birth to an infant with Down's syndrome was shown by chromosomal analysis of the liquor amnii to be carrying an infant with trisomy D. Routine examination of serum and liquor alpha-feto protein (AFP) in the antenatal period showed unexpected high levels of both, consistent with a neural tube defect. The fetus, however, did not have evidence of a neur...

Regional Assignment of the Rat Alpha-Feto Protein Gene (Afp) to Chromosome 14p21-p22

The gene encoding alpha fetoprotein (locus symbol Afp) was assigned to rat chromosome 14 at band p21-p22 using fluorescence in situ hybridization method. The present result suggests that there is a conserved syntenic group between human 4q11-q13, mouse 5F-G, and rat 14p21-p22.

Objective(s):Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that appears on the skin. Although psoriasis is clinically and histologically well characterized, its pathogenesis is unknown in detail. The aims of this study were to evaluate the proteome of psoriatic patients' sera and to compare them with those of normal healthy human to find valuable biomarkers. Materials and Methods: In a case-control study,...
